K-ONE Industry Sdn Bhd, a manufacturer of mobile phone accessories, computer peripherals and consumer technology products, has risen above various challenges and clinched numerous contracts from global reputable companies.
Chief executive officer Martin Lim Soon Seng said the company has won many manufacturing contracts from global original equipment manufacturers and reputable high-technology companies on their home ground.
"Our biggest success is that we are able to challenge some of the most established electronics manufacturing services companies in Europe and the US," he said.
K-One Industry, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mesdaq-listed K-One Technology Bhd, manufactures products designed by its parent company.
It was recognised as one of the 50 most enterprising companies at this year's Enterprise 50 Award, which is organised by Small and Medium Industries Development Corp and Deloitte to identify, support and reward enterprising privately-owned local companies across all sectors.
The company is principally engaged in research, design and development of mobile phone accessories, computer peripherals and consumer technology products.
Its products include mobile phone car cradle, desktop charger-cum-communication port, print server, Web camera, digital pen, optical module system, air ioniser and outdoor sports electronic headlamp.
The company was established in 2001 by Martin, chairman Edwin Lim Beng Fook and vice-president (business development) Bjorn Braten.
K-One Industry, which is confident of securing greater sales and better profit this year, is currently in expansion mode.
"It is mainly due to the streaming of mobile phone accessories projects, which are of higher volume than before," Martin said.
K-One Industry, which already has two factories in Ipoh, has acquired a 43,000 sq ft manufacturing space on 0.6ha, also in Ipoh.
He said the new factory will accommodate the company's expected increase in production in 2008.
This is to cater for a few expected large projects in the mobile phone accessories and consumer technology products sectors.
"So far, the factory acquisition has cost us RM2.7 million.
"The ongoing renovation and capital equipment installation to run production, commencing this year-end, are expected to cost us another RM3 million," he said.
K-One Industry exports almost 100 per cent of its products to Europe, the US and North Asia.
Its customers include Sony Ericsson, Logitech, Petzl and Axis Communications.
Currently, Europe contributes about 80 per cent to its revenue, while the US and Asia contribute 10 per cent each.
For 2007, Martin said, the contribution from North Asia is expected to increase to 20 per cent, while contribution from Europe would be reduced by 10 per cent to 70 per cent.
"The increase in North Asia is primarily due to more shipments of mobile phone accessories to the European multinationals' China plants for bundling with their mobile phones manufactured in China," he said.
Martin said the company is exploring countries in the Middle East as well as New Zealand and Australia to diversify its export markets. It is also focusing on increasing its exports to the US, a market it feels has vast potential.
K-One Industry is planning to intensify its sales coverage in Europe and the US by setting up more sales offices and sales representative offices.
It also plans to establish sales offices in North Asia, namely Japan, South Korea and China.
